Manchester United told the only difference between Marcus Rashford and Kylian Mbappe

Rashford is in sparkling form for Man Utd this season and his regained his confidence under Erik ten Hag

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has claimed that the only difference between Marcus Rashford and PSG star Kylian Mbappe is the fact that the latter has won the World Cup.

Rashford has been in impressive form for the Reds this season scoring 13 goals and grabbing six assists in 24 appearances. Mbappe meanwhile has been in scintillating form in France scoring 20 goals in just 22 appearances.

At the World Cup in Qatar, Mbappe became the first player since Sir Geoff Hurst to score a hat-trick in the final however it was not enough as Argentina beat France on penalties. Had the French won that day, the 24-year-old would have already won the prestigious trophy twice in his career.

According to Saha, it is this confidence which the Frenchman has cultivated from winning the World Cup that sets Mbappe apart from Rashford. He told Football Odds and Betting: “Marcus Rashford is a top-five player in the world right now.

“The one difference between him and Mbappe is the trajectory as Mbappe has won the World Cup already so his confidence has been right up. If Rashford has a team that play with confidence, he’d already be on a list with all the usual Ballon d’Or contenders.

“Every time he’s played with directness and his fitness is right, he’s unplayable. He’s an amazing talent and it’s been frustrating because he’s been overthinking.” Rashford’s contract at Old Trafford was extended by a further year in December but PSG have been interested in the past.

Last month, Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi told Sky Sports News before Rashford’s contract was extended: “He’s another player that is really amazing. And for free? To have Rashford for free, every club would run after him, definitely.

“We’re not hiding it, we spoke before and… interest. But the moment was not a good moment for both sides. Maybe, summer, why not?

“Today if he’s a free agent of course we can talk to him directly but we are not going to talk to him now. Let him focus on the World Cup. Then after in January, hopefully, if we’re interested we will talk to him.”
