Kylian Mbappe has ‘no intention of triggering a one-year extension clause in his current PSG deal’

French superstar Kylian Mbappe reportedly has no interest in triggering a one-year extension to his current PSG deal, which expires in summer 2024.

The PSG forward had reportedly signed a three-year contract before the 2022-23 campaign, but according to L’Equipe it was a two-year deal with the option of an extra season.

Mbappe will enter the final 12 months of his deal at the end of the current campaign, and PSG will again be in the position of deciding whether to try to extend his contract or sell him to avoid losing him for free next summer.

This was the case in the summer of 2021 when Real Madrid submitted a huge bid of £154million for the Ligue 1 star in an attempt to pry him away from Paris, which was rejected.

However, Los Blancos may be able to land the French superstar for free next summer as the 24-year-old looks to run down his current deal at the Parc des Princes.

Christophe Galtier’s side still remain confident that Mbappe will trigger the extension clause

According to L’Equipe, PSG had been confident that Mbappe will stay through to 2025 but that same belief is not shared by the player himself.

Mbappe, who scored a hat-trick in the World Cup final in December, has little interest in triggering the extension, according to the French outlet.

The former Monaco forward has until July 31st to trigger the clause in his PSG deal. If not, he could see out the remainder of his contract and leave for free in 2024.

PSG are then placed in a precarious position where, surprisingly, selling their most valuable asset may be the wisest decision – as opposed to him leaving for nothing.

Mbappe became PSG’s joint-record scorer with a goal in Ligue 1 against Marseille in February – in the same game Lionel Messi scored his 700th club goal.

The French international has long been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid, sparked by their pursuit of Mbappe in 2021.

After that failed attempt, and Mbappe’s new deal at the Parc des Princes, interest cooled off but there has been expectations that the Spaniards would come again.

The forward has previously insisted that he is ‘very happy’ at PSG. He said: ‘For me it’s a privilege to play here. I’m from Paris and being at PSG is special.

‘I arrived when I was young and I’ve grown and matured a lot, on and off the pitch, since then.

‘I don’t think so. If I linked my future to the Champions League, and I don’t want to disrespect the club, I would have gone very far!

‘I am here and I am very happy, and for the moment I’m not thinking about anything other than making PSG happy.’
