Watch Emma Watson’s moving 2016 Women of the Year Awards speech

“Inspiring women have tended to pick me up – scrape me up – off the floor, and say, ‘I know you’re terrified, but you can do this'”

Last night, Emma Watson was awarded the Inspiration prize at the 2016 Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards – and she dedicated her win to women who help and support others all over the world.

The actress told how, during times when she was struggling, “inspiring women have tended to pick me up – scrape me up – off the floor, and say, ‘I know you’re terrified, but you can do this’.”

She gave a particular mention to her sister-in-law, who she credited with supporting her after she had to audition for the role of Belle in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

“I was quite literally in the foetal position on the floor after the audition, just going, ‘Why did I think I could do this? I can’t do this. This is utterly terrifying’,” she said.

The 26-year-old also admitted that “she was utterly terrified – I mean, really, really bricking it” over the speech that she made at the UN about He For She two years ago, saying, “I didn’t think I had it in me”.

The award was presented by the producer David Heyman, who worked with Watson on the Harry Potter film franchise, describing her as “one of the most committed people I know”.
