Fast X isn’t over as soon as the credits roll — there’s another surprise or two that plays afterward. The tenth installment in the franchise arrives two years after F9 and over 20 years since the first The Fast and the Furious raced into theaters. With the end approaching, Fast X’s post-credits sets up Fast & Furious 11 and brings back a familiar face.

Fast X introduced Jason Momoa’s Dante Reyes, Hernan Reyes’ son who is out for revenge on Dominic Toretto for having a hand in killing his father ten years prior. Dante’s Fast X plans puts a target on the backs of Dom’s family, and no one is safe. While the film ends on a cliffhanger, leaving the characters in perilous situations with little hope, the story doesn’t end once the credits start playing. Shortly after the screen goes dark, an additional scene hints at what’s to come and who else will be involved.

Fass X Has One Mid-Credits Scene

Fast X has only one post-credits scene, and it comes at the mid-credits point. Not every Fast & Furious film has included an after credits scene in the past, but the franchise has utilized it well when need be, especially when reintroducing presumably dead characters back into the fold. Fast 9 included a mid-credits scene that brought back Deckard Shaw and set up his Fast X conversation with Han, with the latter arriving at Shaw’s door. Fans see that scene play out in Fast X, and there’s no doubt the tenth installment’s mid-credits scene will also pay off what was teased with a past major character.

Fast X’s Mid-Credits Scene Explained

The mid-credits scene moves away from the events of the cliffhanger ending to a mission involving Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs, who was last seen in Hobbs & Shaw. Hobbs and his team walk into an abandoned warehouse, one that has various monitors featuring Dom and his family over the years. When Hobbs picks up the ringing phone, Dante is on the other end of the line. The Fast X villain reveals he’s after Dom for his involvement in his father’s death, but that it was actually Hobbs who pulled the trigger on Hernan Reyes, killing him. Hobbs isn’t exempt from Dante’s revenge plot, but he does accept it, ready to fight back.

The Rock’s Hobbs Returns To Fast & Furious And Sets Up Fast 11

The Rock’s return as Hobbs in Fast X’s mid-credits scene is a game-changer. In addition to the film’s cliffhanger, Hobbs’ appearance sets up the plot for Fast & Furious 11. With Dom and the rest of the Fast and Furious team scattered, Hobbs’ involvement could shift Dante’s attention for a while, especially if he believes he’s actually bested Dom and killed his family. Hobbs’ return could bring a rejuvenated energy to the next installment, as Dante’s revenge on Dom could have grown a bit tired with no one new to focus on. What’s more, Dante wanting to destroy Hobbs sets up an exciting team-up opportunity with Dom, one that has been a long time coming.

Hobbs’ Return Also Sets Up Hobbs & Shaw 2

Deckard Shaw appeared in one scene during Fast X, but he went off to help Queenie when mercenaries began targeting Dom’s allies. With both Hobbs and Shaw poised to be in Fast & Furious 11, the film could see them working together once more. Their potential team-up to help Dom in the next installment could also set up Hobbs & Shaw 2. The first film, a spinoff following the events of The Fate of the Furious, was successful, so a sequel is not outside the realm of possibility, especially with the primary Fast & Furious films coming to an end soon. That said, there are currently no conversations being had about Hobbs & Shaw 2.

Hobbs’ Return Ends The Rock Vs Vin Diesel Feud

Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel’s feud has been well-documented and very public since 2016. Much of the feud seems to stem from the two actors being, according to Diesel (via GQ), “two alphas,” which likely (and heavily) plays into the power dynamics behind the scenes, as well a difference in their core philosophies and work approach. While Johnson, as recently as late 2021 (via CNN) mentioned that he wouldn’t return to the Fast & Furious franchise, his surprise appearance in Fast X’s mid-credits scene suggests his feud with Diesel is finally over. At the very least, it’s on hold in a bid to focus on giving the franchise a good ending.

With Dante as Hobbs and Dom’s common enemy, Fast & Furious 11 sets up the feuding actors’ onscreen reunion. It’s unexpected considering their history, and the revelation that they didn’t shoot their scenes together for The Fate and the Furious, Johnson’s final film with Diesel. It’s possible the pair won’t actually appear in any scenes together in Fast X, but considering the material for their characters and the enemy they’re facing, it would be fitting if Diesel and Johnson finally came together one last time to conclude the franchise side by side. Family is family, after all, conflict and all.
