Zendaya’s mom seemingly calls out daughter’s engagement rumours as ‘clickbait’

Welp, it looks like Zendaya’s mom, Claire Stoermer, has officially entered the chat re: *those* Zendaya and Tom Holland engagement rumors that legit broke the internet two days ago.

On Wednesday night, Claire posted a screenshot presumably written on her notes app—a *chef’s kiss choice, might I add—complete with the definition of the word “clickbait” on her Instagram. The Story read: “Clickbait typically refers to the practice of writing sensationalized or misleading headlines in order to attract clicks on a piece of content. It often relies on exaggerating claims or leaving out key information in order to encourage traffic. The term is generally used in a dismissive sense.” No-ted!

Though it wasn’t totally clear what the cryptic note was about, many eagle-eyed netizens immediately made the association between the Story and the recent speculation about her daughter’s engagement. A refresher: The rumor mill went into literal overdrive about whether or not Zendaya and Tom were taking the next step in their ‘ship after Pop Hive claimed that the A-list couple was “reportedly engaged” in secret via Twitter.

Interestingly enough, the tweet didn’t even attribute its statement to any credible source before being almost instantly picked up by other accounts and outlets. *Le sigh* TBH, I don’t even feel like I can blame them since it was probs nothing short of wishful thinking…well, that or manifestation lol.

One thing’s for sure, though: If Tom ever *does* decide to pop the question, we likely won’t know about it. After all, he told GQ a year ago that he and Zendaya never even wanted their relationship to go public in the first place.

“One of the downsides of our fame is that privacy isn’t really in our control anymore, and a moment that you think is between two people that love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the entire world,” he said in reference to the video of them kissing that first tipped people off that they were serious. “I’ve always been really adamant to keep my private life private, because I share so much of my life with the world anyway. We sort of felt robbed of our privacy.”

Honestly? I respect it!
