Kevin Durant Explains Why He Wanted The Nets To Trade Him To The Suns

Superstar Kevin Durant was traded to the Phoenix Suns ahead of this season’s trade deadline, and there’s no doubt that this was a win-now move from the team. He will be joining an established core, and the team is in championship-or-bust mode.

When speaking to Melissa Rohlin of Fox Sports, Kevin Durant explained why he asked to be traded to the Phoenix Suns specifically. He cited the “chemistry” and “camaraderie” of the team as key reasons.

“It was just the chemistry, the camaraderie they built the last couple of years that was intriguing,” Durant said. “But that is part of it. You got guys over here who love to play ball, who (have) gotten better over the years. I thought it would be a great team to build with.”

The Phoenix Suns have an elite team on paper and plenty of playoff experience between their core. They will need to be at their best to get through the Western Conference though, as there are other elite teams such as the Golden State Warriors and the Memphis Grizzlies that will be trying to get to the Finals themselves.

This season, Kevin Durant has put up 29.1 PPG, 6.7 RPG, and 5.0 APG. He has had a highly efficient season as usual as well, averaging 56.0% from the field and 40.4% from the 3PT range. Hopefully, we see the star have a good playoff run.

Reggie Miller Believes Kevin Durant Makes The Suns The Western Conference Favorite To Make The Finals

There is no doubt that the Phoenix Suns adding Kevin Durant makes them a top-tier team, and they are many people’s pick to win the championship. In fact, Reggie Miller stated that it’s hard to bet against them coming out of the Western Conference.

“It’s hard for me to bet against them,” Miller said. “The West is wide open other than Phoenix in my opinion.”

“Any team that Kevin Durant is on should be a favorite. Now you pair him with Devin Booker and probably the best floor general that we’ve seen over the last 18 to 20 years in Chris Paul.”

Hopefully, we do see the Phoenix Suns make it deep into the playoffs. They have a championship-level team, and the star power to get things done. It will be up to Kevin Durant to get them over that championship hump, and we will see what ends up happening in the playoffs.
