Casemiro interrupts Carabao Cup celebrations to tell Fernandes off for missing last-gasp chance against Newcastle… before Jadon Sancho winds up the Portuguese star by telling him: ‘Next time you pass’

Manchester United may have lifted the Carabao Cup trophy as Erik ten Hag celebrated his first title as Red Devil’s boss, but that didn’t stop Brazilian midfielder Casemiro from calling out one of his team-mates.

Casemiro opened the scoring with a glancing header in the first-half as United ran out eventual 2-0 winners at Wembley up against Newcastle. Marcus Rashford’s deflected strike that went in off Sven Botman wrapped up victory.

Ten Hag has reset club standards through a proven model of discipline and is reaping the rewards for his efforts perhaps a lot sooner than expected, with United’s stars holding each other to account and reflecting a true team ethic.

Casemiro demonstrated that trophy success doesn’t let players off the hook as he gave Bruno Fernandes a full-time telling off.

Fernandes should have made it 3-0 in the game’s final moments after setting himself in front of goal but watching his eventual shot palmed away by Newcastle’s reserve goalkeeper Loris Karius.

The midfield duo wave their arms and bark at each other as Casemiro remonstrated his unhappiness with Fernandes’ decision-making who in fairness could hardly be blamed for trying to score a cup final goal when victory was already all-but secured.

Smiles eventually spread across the face of both players as they prepared to ascend the Wembley stairs up to the trophy platform.

Winger Jadon Sancho also took time out of post-match celebrations to mock Fernandes for his gaping miss as the team celebrated with Man United fans inside Wembley.

The 22-year-old using Sky Sports’ selfie camera paraded amongst his United team-mates and grabbed Fernandes to offer him some advice.

Sancho jokingly quipped: ‘Next time you pass huh’.

A cheeky-smiled Fernandes laughed off criticism and replied: ‘Next time, next time’.

Manchester United’s revival under Ten Hag took it’s biggest step forward yet as the Dutchman picked up the earliest silverware of the season to cap off a stunning week that also saw the Red Devils knock Barcelona out the Europa League.

The League Cup winners are next in action when they welcome West Ham in the FA Cup fifth round on Wednesday.
