Flo is a cow who lives in Millbrook, Ontario, on a beautiful farm. She spends her days in a nice, green meadow with a rural road nearby. The cows have access to a lovely pond where they may drink and cool off.

Flo, on the other hand, was not pleased when she gave birth to a calf only to have it slip down and under the electrical fence, trapping it outside the field and away from her.

That’s when Dave happened to be driving down the road and noticed the cows cooling off in the pond. He came to a halt to video them and observed that one of the cows was visibly distressed. Flo continued to scrape the dirt near the fence and moo.

He gradually understood she required assistance.

He observed her calf, which was caught on the opposite side of the fence under the scorching heat. The umbilical cord caught his eye, and he knew the calf had been born that day.

He didn’t know how long it had been confined, but it was dry and needed milk.

Dave was concerned that approaching the calf may agitate the cow, but he chose to assist. When the cow began to kick mud up with her front foot as she watched him treat her kid, he used a stick to elevate the electric fence, but it was still alarming.

A video caption said, “He is no courageous farmer, and wiring won’t stop an angry mama.” Both Dave and the calf received shocks, but Dave eventually got the calf over the gate.

Mama and baby scented each other and started heading out into the pasture together right away.

Dave proceeded to inform the farmer, who came out and examined the calf before tagging its ear. It appeared to be in wonderful health. Later, the two cows seemed to remember Dave, and the calf, as well as Flo, approached him for an inquisitive sniff.

We should never take an animal’s intellect or ability to communicate with us for granted. Thankfully, Dave paid attention to Flo’s cues, and her calf is now happy and healthy!
