Madonna tries out the viral Wednesday dance scene, putting her own spin on it. When it arrived on Netflix late last year, the Addams Family series took Hollywood by surprise with how quickly and undeniably it became a hit. Already on the rise thanks to her performances in horror movies, Jenna Ortega was solidified as a star with her turn as the titular teen. One scene in particular, which showed Wednesday Addams busting a move on the dance floor to the tune of “Goo Goo Mucks” by The Cramps, highlighted the actor’s versatility and became something of a sensation online.

Lady Gaga even recreated Wednesday‘s dance moves, which led to a response from Ortega and led to speculation about whether Gaga could potentially appear in a future episode of the series. Now, as shared by Madonna on TikTok, the Material Girl herself has joined in on the craze.

Madonna’s version gives a hat tip to the other famous Wednesday fan, performing the dance routine to the song “Bloody Mary” by Lady Gaga, as has become the TikTok custom. Considering her iconic status, Madonna could inspire a few more artists to post their recreations of the memorable scene.

Given the popularity of Wednesday, there has been some curiosity from viewers about whether the Netflix teen drama series could unintentionally be creating an issue for itself by chasing the highs of its debut. While it was expected that the show would garner attention, given the presence of Ortega and the involvement of Tim Burton as director and executive producer, it took off to a remarkable degree, and there’s always a danger of attempting to recreate another viral craze out of something that was somewhat organic in its first iteration.

It’s not just with Ortega’s viral dance, although that is one component. Wednesday could double down on a lot of the elements that helped turn the show into an unimpeachable hit by further complicating the central love triangle and leaning into the Wednesday/Enid scenes that so delighted audiences. The good news is that, in interviews, co-creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are very clear in their understanding of what helps the show, and where they would like to go with it. As an example, the duo have talked about showing more of Wednesday’s family, even though that’s not one of the key topics that have necessarily dominated the online discourse.

Little is known about season 2 so far. But once casting announcements begin to roll in, it’ll be exciting to see whether the series fills any of the cast departures by adding famous faces like Lady Gaga or Madonna. As it says goodbye to Stranger Things, it’s Wednesday that has now earned the distinction of being Netflix’s most popular youth-skewing drama. That mantle means each decision will be scrutinized.
