This Is Why The BMW M440i Gran Coupe Is Better Than The M4 For Everyday Use

The BMW M440i Gran Coupe and the M4 are two magnificent rides, but one may be better for the track and the other for daily rides.

Those who have the budget to consider one of the newest BMW rides can enjoy a wonderfully broad and rich offer. As always, this renowned car manufacturer offers the 2023 production year rides with the “premium” attribute attached to every lineup.

When it comes to BMW’s car offer in particular, the newest 4 Series stands out with its stunning coupe and convertible body styles. But as per usual, the M variant of the series steals the show, especially the newest BMW M4 Competition Coupe. Offered in three trims and just as many engine configurations, the newest M4 is all set up to fire up both the road and the track — particularly the top-performing CSL, which boasts as high as 543 ponies.

But to speak frankly, the M badging on the BMW 4 Series comes pricey. Those unsure whether they need the track-ready performance and can’t quite say that money is not an issue may find themselves wondering whether the BMW M4 is the right choice.

Of course, the standard BMW 4 Series stands as a logical choice in this scenario, but we still think another coupe with the M badging comes before it. In this article, we’ll talk about why we think the BMW M440i Gran Coupe may be better than the M4 for everyday use.

Alright, the 2023 BMW M4 does top the bar with its three inline-six offerings, which put out 473, 503, or 543 ponies. But this is a track-oriented performance most drivers won’t be able to put to use daily. So, if you don’t have a track around to have fun frequently, and you can imagine trading the impressive power and the swift acceleration (under 3 seconds for the most expensive CSL), then the BMW M440i Gran Coupe is a better option.

Without a doubt, the pulse-raising performance of the M4 is challenging to compete with, but the BMW M440i Gran Coupe provides more than enough to ensure exciting rides in regular traffic. We are, after all, talking about the M-enriched ride.

With a 3.0-liter inline-six paired with a 48-volt hybrid system, the Gran Coupe produces 380 horsepower and zooms between 0 and 60 mph in 4.7 or 4.4 seconds (the latter with the xDrive trim). Add to the picture agile dynamics and an aggressive design, and you get one stunning daily coupe. The BMW M440i Gran Coupe also uses the standard M Differential, the M Sport Brakes, and an intelligent all-wheel drive system to boost balance, handling, and steering even more.

The beautiful thing about the M4 is that it provides such a stunning performance while not significantly sacrificing comfort and convenience. In fact, its cabin is a tad more spacious than that of the BMW M440i Gran Coupe, but that we expected considering the driver-focused layout.

On the other hand, the BMW M440i Gran Coupe provides more trunk space, four doors for enhanced convenience, and the same number (or a few more) convenience features as the M4 at a lower price. The list of the standard niceties included with this car is indeed long.

Firstly, the cabin offers sports seats that are power adjustable in the front, while the driver’s one also has power-adjustable lumbar support. Secondly, there are premium leather materials and top-notch tech, ranging from a standard 10.3-inch infotainment display and a 12.3-inch digital gauge display to Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, Wi-Fi hotspot, and more.

Of course, the BMW M440i Gran Coupe comes with advanced BMW TeleServices (e.g., BMW App, real-time traffic information, and more), BMW ConnectedDrive Services, Active Driving Assistant, and an array of other safety and convenience services and features. Essentially, with all these, the BMW M440i Gran Coupe makes an excellent daily ride.

As mentioned, if you have no money to spare, the BMW M440i Gran Coupe may make a better purchasing choice. As stunning as the BMW M4 is (and there’s no doubt about that), the car starts at $74,700 for the base trim, $78,600 for the Competition, and as high as $82,700 for the Competition xDrive. Double the latter for the CSL.

So, if you really don’t need track-focused performance, or you know you wouldn’t be able to put it to great use, the BMW M440i Gran Coupe may be a better option, starting at $57,450 for the base and $59,450 for the xDrive trim. But again, it all comes down to your preferences and budget. We know we would get the M4 any day if money was not an issue.
