Man Utd: £50m star has ‘reasonably strong chance’ of leaving Old Trafford

Manchester United star Aaron Wan-Bissaka has a ‘reasonably strong possibility’ of sealing his Old Trafford exit this month, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag has completed the loan acquisitions of Jack Butland and Wout Weghorst since the January window opened for business, but he could still sanction further incomings and outgoings ahead of the deadline.

According to The Sun, Crystal Palace fear they will be priced out of re-signing Wan-Bissaka after he has worked his way back into Manchester United chief ten Hag’s plans in recent weeks.

The report suggests the Eagles have been interested in luring the right-back to Selhurst Park, having sold him to the Red Devils in a £50million deal in 2019, but there are concerns his current employers are now less willing to sanction his departure.

Crystal Palace are not Wan-Bissaka’s only suitors as West Ham United are keen on striking a deal which would see him head to the London Stadium on loan for the remainder of the season, while Wolverhampton Wanderers have also joined the race for his signature.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano recently told GiveMeSport that Manchester United are ‘100% open’ to allowing the 25-year-old to move onto pastures new.

Wan-Bissaka has entered the final 18 months of his £100,000-per-week contract at Old Trafford, but there is an option for the Red Devils to extend the agreement by another year.

What has Dean Jones said about Wan-Bissaka?

Jones believes Wan-Bissaka has given himself a chance of remaining on Manchester United’s books beyond the transfer deadline thanks to his recent performances.

However, the journalist understands the Red Devils are still open to sanctioning the former England under-21 international’s departure.

Jones told GiveMeSport: “He’s certainly given himself a lifeline recently.

“I’m led to believe there is actually still a reasonably strong possibility that Wan-Bissaka does move on this month, which seems a little strange, to be honest.”

Should Man United offload Wan-Bissaka before the deadline?

Wan-Bissaka played a key role in Manchester United overcoming bitter rivals Manchester City last weekend, with Sofascore statistics showing he won all seven ground duels he was involved in and also made four tackles, along with one clearance and as many interceptions.

Having struggled for game-time during the first half of the campaign, he has now been named in the Red Devils’ starting line-up for each of the last five Premier League fixtures.

That seems to suggest that Wan-Bissaka has worked his way back into ten Hag’s thoughts, but the Dutchman will be hoping for more of an impact in the final third of the pitch.

The Londoner has only found the back of the net twice and registered 11 assists in 134 Manchester United appearances, which needs to be improved if he wants to make the right-back slot his own.

But, following Wan-Bissaka’s recent resurgence, the Red Devils would be wise to fend off any interest and reassess their options during the summer.
