How Can Principal Weems Return In Wednesday Season 2? Our Biggest Theories

Is it possible for Gwendoline Christie’s supposedly dead Principal Weems to return in season two of Wednesday? Here are some ways she can.

Principal Weems and Wednesday Adams from Wednesday Season 1

Warning! This Article Contains Spoilers for Wednesday, Season 1.Despite seemingly dying towards the end of Wednesday Season 1, there is a chance for Principal Weems (Gwendoline Christie) to return in season 2. When last seen in the season finale, Weems is seemingly killed while she and Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) are confronting Marilyn Thornhill (Christina Ricci), who turns out to be responsible for unleashing the Hyde on students of Nevermore Academy. Thornhill, who is actually Laurel Gates, a descendent of Jericho town founder Joseph Crackstone (William Houston), ends up injecting a poisoned syringe into Weems.

The death of Principal Weems left many plot threads unresolved, such as her efforts to have the town of Jericho accept the outcasts of Nevermore Academy or her apparent disdain of Gomez Addams (Luis Guzmán) choosing Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) over her. With Wednesday officially renewed for a second season, there is a chance Principal Weems can return from the dead. Here are some of the theories on how this can happen. Christie Has Said About Returning For Wednesday Season 2Principal Weems smiles covered in blood in Wednesday

In an interview, Gwendoline Christie addresses her character’s demise by noting that Weems was not seen being put into the ground. “I feel like Larissa Weems would not really be prepared to entertain or be dominated by anything as commonplace as death,” says Christie (via Digital Spy). Christie goes on to note that “Larissa is doing her best to be embracing of the world as a whole. I think she’s taken that chance, and it’s unfortunate that it has ended up leading to her demise.

At the time of this interview, Wednesday was not yet renewed for a second season. It is also commonplace in interviews for actors to remain coy about the future of their characters. That said, Gwendoline Christie does seem open to the possibility that Weems might return in season 2.

Principal Weems Can Be Seen In A Wednesday Season 2 FlashbackYoung Larissa Weems in Wednesday

Episode 5 of Wednesday already featured a flashback to when a young Gomez was arrested for killing rival Garrett Gates. The flashback also features a young Larissa Weems (Oliver Wickham), who seems to hold a grudge against her Nevermore roommate Morticia for stealing Gomez from her. Weems’ status as Morticia’s Nevermore roommate and her apparent jealousy of her relationship with Gomez is an aspect of Weems’ backstory that can be developed with additional flashbacks in season 2.

It is also possible for Gwendoline Christie to return in flashbacks about Weems’ efforts to get the town of Jericho to accept Nevermore Academy. The flashbacks can help establish her working relationship with the late Jericho mayor Noble Walker (Tommie Earl Jenkins). Before her death, Weems and Nevermore were essential to Jericho’s economy, and season 2 could build upon that.

Principal Weems Faked Her Death In WednesdayWeems' Death in Wednesday

Even though Weems is last seen dying after getting poisoned by Thornhill, it is possible that the person seen dying is not Weems at all. Weems is killed shortly after it is revealed that the shapeshifter was pretending to be Tyler (Hunter Doohan) as part of an effort between her and Wednesday to get Thornhill to confess to her crimes. However, the body of Principal Weems is not seen nor referenced for the rest of the episode.

There is a chance that Weems was not the only shapeshifter at Nevermore Academy, where outcasts with similar abilities typically congregated together. Knowing the danger of confronting Thornhill personally, it is possible that Weems had this other shapeshifter pretend to be her while the real Weems observed from afar. This can explain why Thornhill was seemingly able to kill Weems with ease after she revealed herself.

Shapeshifting Isn’t Principal Weems Only Power In WednesdayWednesday Principal Larissa Weems Desk Shrunken Head

While shapeshifting is the only power Weems is seen performing, it might not be the only one she has. She could have had some form of immortality that made her immune to Thornhill’s poison. While the poison incapacitated Weems, she ultimately would have survived.

This is probably one of the most unlikely theories since there has yet to be an outcast established with more than one ability. The previous theory that Weems faked her death is far more plausible than the possibility that she had a supernatural immunity to the poison. However, despite this theory being unlikely, there is still a slim chance that it can be valid.

Wednesday Finds A Way To Resurrect Principal WeemsJenna Ortega as Goody and Wednesday Addams in Netflix's Wednesday season 1

At the very least, it is possible that Wednesday’s psychic abilities can make her communicate with Principal Weems from beyond the grave. This has already been established throughout the first season, as Wednesday has regular contact with her ancestor Goody Addams. As such, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that the same can happen in the second season with Principal Weems.

A full-on resurrection for Weems is also possible since the season finale established this was possible with Thornhill’s revival of Joseph Crackstone. However, the question is not whether Wednesday can resurrect Principal Weems but if she should. As Crackstone’s resurrection didn’t reverse his decaying, it is possible that a resurrected Principal Weems would be a much different person.

Principal Weems Was Working With ThornhillGwendoline Christie as Principal Weems and Christina Ricci as Marilyn Thornhill in Wednesday season 1 episode 4

Throughout the first season of Wednesday, Principal Weems shared an adversarial relationship with Wednesday. Until her death, it was ambiguous whether this antagonistic behavior was because she was a stern principal or had more nefarious plans. If the latter was true, Weems could have been in league with Thornhill and her death being merely a ruse to fool Wednesday.

The only hiccup with this theory is that it can be hard to swallow that a supporter of the rights of outcasts would be in league with someone who wants to wipe them out. That said, this does explain why Weems was so quick to cover up the death of Calum Ross (Rowan Laslow) in the second episode. This can also allow Weems to be revealed as Wednesday‘s stalker sending the threatening texts at the end of the season.
