Guti warns Real Madrid against €150 million transfer move

Real Madrid have been relatively quiet when it comes to transfers in recent years and their net spend has been lower than several midtable Premier League clubs over the past decade or so. Los Blancos have pretty much moved away from their Galactico style signings. Yet, that does not mean that the club will not splash out if they feel that the right player is available. The move for Aurelien Tchouameni in the summer proves that.

The club have been linked with several highly rated young players in recent months. But amongst them, it looks like Jude Bellingham is their top target.

Several other top clubs are said to be after Bellingham’s signature as well though, with Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea all being linked with him. Thus, Borussia Dortmund could be looking for a transfer fee in the region of €150 million to part ways with the English midfielder.

Guti does not feel that Real Madrid should spend that kind of a transfer fee though. As reported by GOAL, he said on the talk show El Chiringuito:

“With the team that Real Madrid has, you shouldn’t spend that. You have young players, certainly not as developed as he is, but the development is still good and you have to give these players stakes.

“If Bellingham comes, then respect [Federico] Valverde. Because Bellingham comes to play. And if Kroos continues, if Modric continues… Valverde would close the door a little more.”

Guti warns Real Madrid against €150 million move for Bellingham

Real Madrid might very well have to shatter their transfer record if they want to sign Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund next summer.

When it comes to the potential €150 million fee, that is where the football transfer market is at right now. Chelsea recently agreed a package believed to be around €100 million in order to sign Shakhtar Donetsk winger, Mykhailo Mudryk, who is much less proven at a top level.

On top of that, Luka Modric is 37 years of age while there have been rumours that Toni Kroos is already considering retirement. Of course, a €150 million transfer fee is steep and comes with a major risk, no matter who is signed for that figure.

It all depends on how much of a risk Real Madrid are willing to take on the talent and potential of Bellingham, who could very well turn out to be his generation’s best midfielder, considering his quality at 19.
